Fixing Import Errors

Troubleshooting Import Errors

Common import issues and how to resolve them.

Error: "Unable to Parse Date"

Cause: Date format doesn't match expected format

Solutions:

  1. Check your broker's date format (MM/DD/YYYY vs YYYY-MM-DD)
  2. Ensure dates don't have extra spaces
  3. Convert dates in Excel before importing

Error: "Missing Required Field"

Cause: A required column is missing or not mapped

Solutions:

  1. Verify your CSV has all required columns
  2. Use column mapping if headers are different
  3. Check for typos in header names

Error: "Invalid Symbol"

Cause: Ticker symbol format isn't recognized

Solutions:

  1. Remove exchange suffixes (AAPL.US → AAPL)
  2. Check for special characters
  3. Use standard ticker format

Error: "Duplicate Trade"

Cause: Same trade already exists in system

Solutions:

  1. Check if you've already imported this file
  2. Review date ranges to avoid overlap
  3. Use "Skip Duplicates" option

Error: "Invalid Action"

Cause: Buy/Sell indicator not recognized

Solutions:

  1. Use standard terms: BUY, SELL, LONG, SHORT
  2. Check for extra spaces
  3. Map custom terms in column mapping

Prevention Tips

  1. Always preview before final import
  2. Start with small batches to test format
  3. Keep original files as backup
